Texas Thespians put Send a Troupe campaign over the top

January 30, 2014

Texas Thespians have made a $2,925 donation to the 2014 Send a Troupe to Festival campaign, pushing the fund to its goal of $25,000. That will be enough to cover the travel and registration expenses for two Thespian troupes that would not otherwise be able to attend the Festival.

Texas State Chapter Director Amy Jordan, Thespian troupe director at Denison High School, said the idea that Texas could put the campaign over the top came to her while she was browsing the EdTA website a few days ago. “I saw that the thermometer wasn’t quite up to the top, and I thought, we ought to do something about that,” she said. “The Festival is such an important thing to my kids. I think it changes lives, and we wanted to help others have that experience. So I contacted my board members and they all said yes.”

The Texas contribution is the largest single donation in this year's Send a Troupe campaign, EdTA Director of Development Kristin McFadden said. “This is a wonderful surprise and a spectacular way to meet our goal,” she said. “But it’s also very gratifying that the campaign was supported by small donations from members and friends all over the country.”

Applications are now being accepted for the 2014 Send a Troupe grants. Contributions are still being accepted, too, McFadden said. “It’s difficult to predict the actual cost of the grant program each year, since we don’t know how many students will be coming or how far they’ll be coming from. So we’ll be glad to have a little bit of a cushion beyond our goal.”
