Henry J. Kaiser High School’s Thespian Troupe 6721 in Fontana, California, and Mitchell High School’s Thespian Troupe 6786 in Bakersville, North Carolina, are the recipients of the Educational Theatre Association’s 2016 Send a Troupe to Festival grant, which will cover the troupes’ travel and registration expenses for the International Thespian Festival.
Students and chaperones will travel to the event in Lincoln, Nebraska, from June 20-25. At Festival, students will participate in workshops conducted by theatre professionals, compete in the National Individual Events program, see productions by schools from across the country, and audition for colleges.
"Going to the International Thespian Festival will be life-changing for my students," says Kaiser's Troupe Director Wendi Johnson. "Our district and school will see that it strengthens our advocacy for the importance of theatre to our students. They will see the power of theatre beyond their borders."
Mitchell’s Troupe Director Gregory Franklin says, “The opportunity to attend the International Thespian Festival will allow them to gain a better understanding of how many people across the country share their same interests. The experiences that they gain from attending will not only open their eyes to areas of theatre that were unfamiliar, but will hopefully ignite inquisitiveness and excitement to continue moving their own program forward.”
