Board acts on appointed members

October 11, 2013

The EdTA Board of Directors adopted a statement of purpose for appointed board positions in a brief meeting during the EdTA National Conference in Minneapolis.

The board had asked an ad hoc committee to study the questions of why EdTA should have appointed board members and what the qualifications for appointment should be. The resulting statement of purpose identifies diversity, perspective, leadership experience, industry connections, and specialized expertise as some of the valuable qualities appointed members can bring to the board. Desired qualifications include knowledge of, experience with, or connection to educational theatre; a passion for theatre and theatre education; leadership excellence; and a desire to serve. Read the full text of the committee’s statement of purpose. Matt Conover, an appointed member of the board who served on the ad hoc committee, has also posted a blog on this subject.

In other business, the board updated the policy monitoring calendar to reflect the new fiscal year and discussed staff planning for Thespian Festival growth and the development of an online community.
