Student Leadership

Student Leadership

Student leadership training courses will be offered on Tuesday through Friday at the 2019 International Thespian Festival. From 9:00 to 10:30 each morning, delegates will attend leadership workshops taught by the 2018-2019 International Thespian Officers and participate in electing the next ITO board. Students attending leadership training are also encouraged to attend the “Meet the Candidates” and "N.A.P.S. (National Advocacy, Plain and Simple)" workshops, outside of the morning leadership courses, for additional sessions led by the ITO.

The International Thespians Officers (ITO) are six student leaders, from across the nation, who represent the student voice in the Educational Theatre Association (EdTA). These officers work year round with EdTA employees, State Thespian Board Volunteers, and Thespians from across the world to advocate for the theatre arts and create the best experience possible for students. There are six ITO positions that will be elected at the International Thespian Festival in June. An ITO Chair will be selected at the Leadership Summit (July 17-19, 2019). Click Here to watch a brief video of this year’s ITO explaining what they do.

The ITO travel across the country, averaging anywhere between 7-15 trips over the course of a one-year term, for meetings and to serve as EdTA representatives at various state Thespian festivals. When attending these festivals, the ITO have many responsibilities, including representing the student voice and face of ITS and EdTA, promoting EdTA campaigns such as the “Minute to Give It” fundraiser for the Send A Troupe to Thespian Festival program, promoting a strong leadership model, facilitating leadership and advocacy workshops, and making connections with many Thespians from that state. Expenditures associated with ITO service are covered by EdTA. When not traveling, the ITO are expected to keep social media platforms updated, actively participate in regular conference calls with their fellow officers and EdTA staff, and dedicate time and hard work to various ITO projects and initiatives.
