The school administration must appoint one adult to serve as the official troupe director. That person should submit the online application. Here’s a checklist and some tools to help you gather information you’ll need to charter a new troupe or reinstate a lapsed troupe to active status.
1. Confirm school eligibility.
Your school is eligible to activate a Junior Thespian troupe provided you have a traditional, brick-and-mortar public or private school that provides full academic course work in grades 6-8 and has a theatre program of any kind. Contact our membership team if you have questions about your school's charter eligibility.
2. Obtain authorization and collect required information.
a.) Get administration authorization.
The troupe director and principal must agree to the Terms of membership for ITS troupes, which is included in the Prep kit for Junior Thespian troupe activation.
b.) School, troupe director, and principal information.
An information collection sheet is in the prep kit.
c.) Contact information for new student inductees.
You’ll need each eligible student’s name, birthdate, gender, and grade 8 graduation year. The Junior Thespian induction invitation sheet included in the prep kit will help you collect that information.
Minimum inductee requirement. At least six inductees are required to charter a new troupe. If you are reinstating a lapsed troupe and don’t already have six active Junior Thespians on your roster, you’ll need to submit enough inductees to meet that minimum requirement with your reinstatement application.
Junior Thespians who have transferred to your troupe do count toward the six minimum. Contact our membership team if you need to transfer Junior Thespians to your troupe to meet the requirement.
3. Arrange payment.

When applying online, you may choose to pay by credit card (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Diners Club) or official school purchase order.
There isn't an option to pay by check.
