Collaborative Puppetry, Baumgartner
Join Aretta Baumgartner, education director of Atlanta’s Center for Puppetry Arts. Participants will collaborate and emerge from this active three-hour lab with original work and skills to open doors to creativity and connection using puppetry. We’ll explore the liberation of disappearing into a puppet, the knowledge of how your unique body works for you when you create theatre, the idea that stillness is as important as movement, the revelation that props and costumes are used to better advantage when approached as “puppets,” and the difference between attention and tension. High points will include playing with puppeteer transformation exercises, creating simple Bunraku-inspired puppets, and putting these puppets into action in a devised collaborative scene. Class size limit: 15.
