1.  High School Production of Chicago

Posted 04-18-2017 09:30
Has anyone produced Chicago at the high school level? I am throwing around the idea of doing the show at my school next year. I know the potential pitfalls, but I am wondering if anyone else has advice or experience to share?

Thanks!

We did Chicago this year at a conservative Catholic high school and it was a huge success.  Not one complaint.  The key was preparing our community ahead of time and staging the show so that some of the more provocative elements were downplayed (without changing the script!).  If you'd like more details, contact me directly.  I can also share my curtain speech, which was designed to quiet the naysayers.  Do Chicago!

Hey Jeff!

We are currently developing a High School Edition of Chicago that is super easy to license and perform - a few edits have been made (the more R-rated sexual references have been removed) - and we are planning to open it up to licensing in Spring 2018. On our website, we are currently gathering registrations for interested schools who will be notified as soon as it comes available. You can find it here: Samuel French

Lawrence, I am so excited to hear this! I've been wanted to do Chicago for a long time but was wary of it in a high school setting. This is very exciting news!

I teach in a fairly conservative small town within the metro Detroit area - we have dealt with minor community concerns with a few of our previous productions over the past 20+ years - but have been able to build a strong reputation within the community -  we produced Chicago in 2014 and did the show as written with no cuts - we received nothing put positive feedback from our community and the students involved consider it one of their favorite theatre experiences ... we had a lot of fun putting this show together ..

We have access to some of the costumes for Chicago that were used for Providence College that are very tasteful as they are a catholic school.  Email me if you are interested in taking a look jackie@theatregalleria.com!
