Doing Holiday Show not in Nov/Dec

    Hi,
We do one show each year, usually in winter (February/March).  I'm considering Elf.  Has anyone done this show, White Christmas, or Charlie Brown Christmas not during Nov/Dec?  How was it received?  Would you do it again?
Unfortunately, scheduling doesn't allow it to be done during Nov/Dec.
    Thanks,
    Janet Cain

I have done Best Christmas Pageant Ever and Charlie Brown Christmas in late October.  Christmas decorations are already in the stores so I market it as getting our minds on the true focus of Christmas as we move into the craziness that is Christmas, a season that has become to much about $$ and less about hearts.  They were both well received and both were used for One Act Competitions.

Last school year we did Scrooge the first week of December.  While it was a wonderful challenge, it proved too difficult for our instrumental program (who does the orchestra) to fully prepare to an acceptable level given their fall commitments to Marching Band and competitions.  Something you may consider.  Looking back, it def could have been done during our normal spring run.

On the Elf note-  Good Luck.  That was our first choice, before Scrooge.  I've been trying to secure those royalities since the show was announced but it is still restricted.  I wish MTI would take it down, because unless your a professional company it seems to be off limits.   Date of release is still unknown.

I produced/directed White Christmas in mid March 3 years ago.  Of course, I got the "why is he doing a Christmas show in March?" questions from several people but that didn't stop me (nor should it stop you).  The show isn't really about Christmas all that much.  BUT....we went full out.  Our auditorium, main lobby and cafeteria are all in the same area.  We decorated everything for Christmas. We had fully decorated Christmas trees everywhere.  Everyone loved it.  And the show was a huge hit!  Don't let the calendar be a roadblock for you.  Go for it!
