Hunchback Questions

I am currently directing The Hunchback of Notre Dame and am wondering if anyone has resources for the following:

    1.  12 gargoyle masks (half masks actually).  Most I've seen online are full masks or are cheap looking.
    2.  Torches that look to be burning
    3.  smoke special effect

    Thanks!

Hi Laura! There are plenty of people in the forum who have worked on The Hunchback of Notre Dame, so I've listed some past threads below that address some of the questions you have about the production:

We are currently in rehearsal for Hunchback as well. I took a chance on these flame torches and they came in and are looking fabulous! I also love that they are solar so there is no more battery cost. We cut black thick cardstock to cover the sensor so it lights. It also has an on/off switch.

We didn't use masks for the gargoyles, just hooded great capes.  The hoods were slightly oversized so when they pulled them up, their faces set back inside them.

As as far as smoke, we used a fog machine. The "smoke" slowly rolled out from under the pyre. It wasn't on very long so we didn't have residual fog hanging around for the next scene.

i wanted to use a off "canon" (I can't remember exactly what they are called, but they shoot bursts of fog? Water vapor? Straight up) for when Chopin disappears, but I found them too late to investigate thoroughly and order one.

Thanks Holly.  Good idea about the fog--we will probably go that route.  I found a mask-maker to make the gargoyle masks at a reasonable price.
