Anyone have any good theatre-related PD opportunities that are happening remotely? Anything happening between now and mid June?

Have you looked at Theatrefolk and their Drama Teacher Academy.  They have lots of PD opportunities.

The Tennessee Arts Academy has just announced that their classes this summer will be virtual. The Academy offers a dedicated theatre track for high school teachers and a separate track for elementary theatre/arts integration teachers. There are also divisions for music, visual art, and arts leadership. Here is the press release on the changes for 2020. The dates are July 12-17. The website is tennesseeartsacademy.org

This is from one of my favorite professional development instructors, and I'm so excited about these topics. They're free and available to any teachers.

Secondary Theatre Institute – Teaching Virtually in Times of Change

This series of workshops will be offered for free by the JMU Theatre Education Program, facilitated by Joshua Rashon Streeter. Each workshop will be one-hour long and delivered in real-time via Zoom. The workshops are hands on, so please come ready to engage with us! To run the workshops, a minimum of twelve teachers need to enroll by August 1st. You can enroll in one, two, or all three workshops (links below)!

    Digital Storytelling – August 3, 2020, 7:00 pm EST

This workshop will explore how to create digital stories to bring personal narratives into the classroom. This form connects to a study of performance, design, directing, and dramaturgy. Click here to register for this workshop!

Culturally Responsive Theatre Education – August 4, 2020, 7:00 pm EST

This workshop will investigate culturally responsive education and provide applications for the secondary classroom. Together, we will identify steps a teacher can take to unpack their own practice and re-think their curriculum and methods. Then, we will explore ways to develop a classroom community (virtually or face-to-face) rooted in culturally responsive practice. Click here to register for this workshop!

Teaching Theatre Remotely – August 5, 2020, 7:00 pm EST

This workshop will highlight drama and theatre strategies that can be successfully facilitated through Zoom (or another video conferencing tool) for use in the theatre classroom to deepen skill development. Also, this workshop will identify already existing resources that can support teachers to create interactive lessons for students to complete asynchronously. Click here to register for this workshop!

Any questions, please reach out to Joshua at streetjr@jmu.edu.
