    Call for Scripts

    A Playwriting Contest for High School Students

    The School of Theatre and Dance at James Madison University invites you to send us your short plays for a reading at the Theatre In Our Schools conference on March 16, 2019.

    We are looking for short plays written by high school students that address stories of being "on the edge." What does on the edge mean to you? Is it the edge of a decision, a relationship, or an awakening? Or something else? Send us your scripts by January 5, 2019. Once submitted, a jury of JMU student readers will select four scripts for a public reading. Each play will be assigned a student director and actors from the JMU School of Theatre and Dance in preparation for a reading at the Theatre In Our Schools conference on March 16, 2019!

    We welcome scripts representing a range of global perspectives on race, culture, language, disability, gender, sexuality, nationality, and political worldview. Accepting scripts from high school students anywhere across the US!
