Just wondering how much rehearsal time goes into preparation for any competition pieces?

When I rehearse any piece, whether a play or festival/competition piece, I use the rule which we learned in Grad school. AFTER the scene or play is staged, worked on, and memorized, the recommended rehearsal time is one hour of rehearsal for running minute.

It varies.  Since I include so many band students (and more than a few athletes) in my program, I do have to adjust the schedule accordingly.  However, on average, we rehearse:
    Weeks 1-4: 4 Days a week, 2-3 hours a day (weekends: 5-6 hours)
Weeks 5-6: (Dress/Tech Weeks) Rehearse everyday (except Sundays, and if breaks are needed for fatigue, grades, etc.)
    Key points:
    1) Actors must be off-book 2 weeks before tech week (3 weeks before performances).
    2) All costumes, props, set pieces, sound elements etc. must be in place before tech week.

    Hope this helps.
