Our high school is performing their big musical in April, I’m looking for ideas in marketing the play! Thanks!

We get a very strong response from social media. Our venue has a Facebook page with over a thousand active friends. Our individual arts programs have active social media pages of their own. If you have a community access TV station, many of them have a regularly program where they interview individuals in the community to share what is happening in the community. Ours is a weekly program, and our students go to the cable TV station regularly to be on the program. Community and school newsletters as well as press releases to local news papers and magazines are great too.

Instagram is also a really popular platform that you might want to use. Students could post photos during the rehearsal process to create some interest.

We have had success with weekly progress videos. Audiences seem to enjoy getting to know the progress as much as seeing the product. I ask the kids to take shots during rehearsals, production meetings, builds, and to take pictures of preliminary sketches and final designs. We use Adobe Spark and Adobe Post (low cost or free apps)  to create videos that are about 1 minute long that we post to our school's social media page. I also created a logo for our theater program that is always included for branding purposes.  These videos raise the profile of your program and create anticipation for the show and kids enjoy making them and tagging each other.
