Of Mice and Men OLD DOG sound

Hi brilliant minds....I am working on sound for a production of OF MICE AND MEN. Working with the director, we realized we can't have an old dog so I suggested we could do some sound effects and maybe some lighting shadows to make it feel like the dog is on stage (or just off stage). I have been searching for appropriate SFX (e.g., dog moan, weak bark, etc.), but I can only find "bright" dog sounds. Anyone have an idea on where to find some sounds or have a better idea on how to give the impression of an old dog on stage? Thanks in advance.

The BBC has a free sound effects library of over 16,000 sound effects that my husband made great use of when designing sound for my high school shows.

Perhaps this is an opportunity for a student to be creative with some off stage or pre recorded voice work to create the specific sounds you are looking for? With a free program like Audacity a tech student and a performer could come up with a body of dog effects for you to work from.
