    Hi Melinda,

In PA, DeSales, Penn State University, Carnegie Mellon University, and Point Park College all have reputable theater programs.

Throughout my teaching career I have had a handful of students attend the University of North Carolina School of the Arts in Winstom-Salem. They are all working professionally...well, sans the current status of the pandemic. Say a lot in my book!

DeSales University in PA is a wonderful program and not as well known as it should be! Coastal Carolina in NC is another up-and-coming program. Missouri State, University of Arizona, Slippery Rock University in PA, SUNY Fredonia, Webster University, Southeast Missouri State, Illinois Wesleyan - all have fabulous programs for MT!   Check out Paper Mill Playhouse's website for a long list of schools that participate in the Common Prescreen: https://papermill.org/musical-theater-common-prescreen/ as good place to start.

Broadway star Lisa Brescia (most recently in Dear Evan Hanson) is now a full time professor in the department of music and dance at Missouri State and she loves the department. I've also heard good things about Coastal Carolina.

    Happy Friday Melinda!
I got my BFA in Musical Theatre from Shenandoah University in Winchester, VA (about an hour from Washington, DC) and it was exactly what I needed...A highly focused conservatory training program that was outside of a major city!

I will second DeSalles in Eastern PA (Lehigh Valley area.) I regularly attend their productions that are always well done. I've hired alumni as Dance Captain and Assoc. Director for my NYC training program with great success.

The University is also the home to The Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival,  which is an AEA professional summer season that offers more quality exposure for students.

    Worth a serious look.

I'm a casting director, and I like what I'm seeing coming from:
    Elon
    Otterbein
    Shanendoah (sp?)

And I'm very proud of the work we do at PCPA Pacific Conservatory Theatre www.pcpa.org

I'll second Shenandoah. My students have gotten great experiences there! Lesser-known programs in Virginia that seem to have quality staff and educational opportunities include James Madison University (Harrisonburg) and Virginia Commonwealth University (Richmond).

I would add a third for VCU. It was a great program when I went there (We won't discuss how many years ago that was.) and the work I've seen from the current students is even better than it was then.

I would also add The University of Texas at Austin. It has a great program and the tuition rates are very competitive, even for out of state students.
