Hi there! I am a first year Drama Teacher at a private school. I went to college and studied Musical Theatre and have been a theatre student all my life, but I never did Thespians. My first year, I have been assigned Junior and Senior Thespian Sponsor and I am in charge of both. I have ZERO clue what to do and I am a nervous wreck. How do I choose who my "committee" is for highschool? What do we do in meetings? How do I induct students into Thespians, how do I assign points... I am going into this blind and I am overwhelmed with all that comes into being in charge of Thespians and troupes for the festivals. Someone please help me ! Thank you in advance

I taught in Florida years ago, and I can remember how overwhelming the whole Thespian thing was during my first year.

If your school is in Miami, you are in District 8.  I suggest you call your district chair, Gary Graff, and ask him to suggest a troupe sponsor in your district who can mentor you through the process.  district8thespians@gmail.com

The info on this website says registration closes on Oct. 1, so you don't have much time.  https://www.district8thespians.com/

If your school has not had a Thespian troupe in the past, perhaps you can go by yourself to observe the district and state festivals, or take just two or three outstanding students.

If your school has previously participated, your principal or bookkeeper should be able to give you the name of a parent chaperone who attended in the past who can help you with the process.

    Best wishes!
