Virtual Student Playwriting Groups...?

  • 1.  Virtual Student Playwriting Groups...?

I just finished teaching virtually at Arkansas Thespians a short while ago, and after the session was done, I did a brief Q&A, and one of the students asked how to find a good mentor, because her friends typically just told her they loved her work; she wanted more balanced feedback. That eventually led to a number of students swapping contact info with a goal of swapping scripts, and it occurred to me (so I then suggested it) that they could start an online writing group where they did readings and discussions of each other's work.

While our turn to virtual has obviously posed many challenges, this might be something positive that could come out of it: A school may only have a few playwrights, but at the state level, there would be many like-minded people with whom they could connect. Not sure if this idea has occurred to anyone else, but I put it out there in case it hadn't...

    Cheers,
    Jonathan
