July 1 marks the start of a new EdTA board term, with new members joining and others transitioning to new roles.

Helen Duranleau-Brennan is your new board president through June 30, 2023. Krista Carson Elhai has rejoined the board as vice president following her election in March. Gai Laing Jones steps into the past president role for one year. Appointed board member Leslie Johnson also joins the board, replacing Laurie Baskin.

Duranleau-Brennan, Elhai, and Jones are all longtime theatre educators. Duranleau-Brennan currently works as a literacy and arts consultant for the Mississippi Bend Area Education Agency. After 37 years in the classroom, Elhai retired from full-time teaching at the end of the past school year. Jones is also a retired educator; all three are active volunteers for their EdTA chapters as well as EdTA.

Johnson is executive vice president of the Skirball Cultural Center, bringing three decades of experience in arts education, nonprofit management, and cultural leadership to EdTA.

You can learn more about these board members’ terms and backgrounds, as well as the role of the governing board, on the EdTA board of directors web page.

Appointed board members serve one four-year term. The leadership positions involve one five-year term, with those elected serving two years as vice president, two as president, and one as past president. Elected board directors serve a three-year term and may be re-elected to a second three-year term.
