Looking for a direct way to advocate for theatre education during Theatre in Our Schools month? Join in EdTA’s Virtual Capitol Hill Week March 22-26 and meet with the elected officials who are shaping federal policies and legislation impacting how education is conducted in your state. All adult members and student are eligible to participate without cost.

This program is part of the Arts ARE Education campaign’s Arts Education Capitol Hill Month, in which advocates from all arts education disciplines will conduct virtual visits with their legislators. Anyone is welcome to register for ARE Arts Education Hill Month Kickoff Town Hall on March 2 at 5 p.m. ET.

“With 71 new legislators and a fresh administration, this is a well-timed opportunity for EdTA’s theatre education advocates to raise the profile of the organization and to make a strong case for badly needed funding to support teachers’ and students’ safe return to the classroom in the coming months,” said EdTA advocacy and policy advisor Jim Palmarini.

Training sessions leading up to Capitol Hill Week will prep educators and students for their Hill visits, including how to set up legislator appointments:

  • Going to the Hill—everything you need to know and do to get ready, March 9
  • Student advocacy—make the case for theatre education with TIOS, March 10
  • Advocacy Leadership Network Panel: Tips and Q&A: March 11

All sessions will be recorded for later viewing. Additionally, EdTA will hold office hours the week of March 15-19, where veteran advocates will be available for registrants who have questions or need help with setting their legislator appointments.

“We’ll also be providing links to support tools and resources, including digital leave-behind documents that advocates can present to their legislators or staff,” Palmarini said.

All EdTA student and adult members are welcome to join the training sessions, whether or not they make legislator visits. Visit the event web page for more details, webinar signup, and event registration.
