The Educational Theatre Association offers a wealth of opportunities to students and teachers including workshops, professional development, scholarships, and grants, and a network of other theatre educators and Thespians to connect to. Supporting educators and honoring student achievement are at the heart of EdTA’s mission.

Teachers who are members of EdTA receive the organization’s magazines, Teaching Theatre journal, a quarterly publication, as well as Dramatics magazine, a monthly magazine published September to May, which Thespians also receive. Each year in December, Dramatics puts together a directory of college theatre programs across the country, a great resource for teachers and guidance counselors trying to help juniors and seniors prepare for college or to help the aspiring Thespian find the right program.

EdTA also hands out many scholarships, grants and awards to educators and students every year.

The greatest benefit of a professional EdTA membership is becoming a part of a sprawling theatre education network that is rich in experience, props and costumes, and advice. Professional members receive discounts on EdTA’s annual Conference, an excellent professional development opportunity, with graduate and CEU credit often available. The Thespian Festival, held annually in Lincoln, Nebraska is another opportunity, for teachers to meet other professionals in their field, and a great time for students to audition for college and scholarships, see high-quality productions, attend excellent workshops, and make many new friends.
