Part of the set for our fall play this year includes a working fountain.  Does anyone have a suggestion for how to make one inexpensively.  Our entire set budget is $300, and we have to build three different sets.

Hi! I think I would start with your local store (Home Depot) and see if they can loan you one. You could give them advertising and also put a sign up in the lobby that the fountain is for sale.
We are using a fountain in our fall show, too. We have a little bit more money to spend and I was thinking of purchase the one at Home Depot that is quite large and is $169. HD often gives a 5-20% discount for teachers and schools, so I would check that out, too. The large fountain at HD is composite, so it's not heavy when it's empty.

Reach out to your parents and faculty friends and see if anyone was thinking of putting a fountain in their yard. Maybe you could purchase it and sell it to them at a reduced rate after the show, therefore making back most of your money.
